4.1) The courses I took to fulfill this MLO were JAPN 403, JAPN 404, and WLC 400. JAPN 403 was the course that first introduced the capstone project for Japanese major students. This class was were I was able to begin developing ideas and work that would eventually become my graduation project. This course utilized computer labs along with guest speakers in order to develop better research methods. By utilizing the methods I learned in this class I was able to gather the information necessary to start my capstone project.
4.2) The JAPN 404 course was created specifically to teach students about how to teach structure of written Japan and properly words and grammar for written and presentation Japanese. Each class period emphasized new grammar while introducing when and where to use it. My topic required the knowledge of very academic language and this course provided valuable vocabulary that allowed me to be able to articulate my research findings properly in Japanese. In addition, having never written an academic research paper in Japanese, this course focused on language difference and sentence ending particles that are different from spoken Japanese and addressed the different in writing styles found in letters, books, news articles, and essays.
4.3) WLC 400 is the course where we used various resources in order to accomplish all requirements of the capstone. This class we finalized a google form in both English and Japanese to be administered to students, completed a research paper, and completed our graduation portfolio. Although having a partner helped relieve some pressure, it did not come without its fair share of challenges. Most challenging was getting started of research and finding academic sources. This was the first time I had to do such extensive research in not only English, but Japanese as well. The multiple lectures given by the librarian really helped us in this aspect and guided us in the correct direction. This has greatly helped me develop deeper critical thinking skills and grow intellectually in many aspects.
